Sebastien Buemi has been penalised by the stewards following a post-race investigation. The reason given is an unsafe release and the penalty is a drive through penalty, converted to 29s added to his finishing time.
The decision means that the Swiss driver loses his third place finish, putting him into ninth place and promoting fourth place Heidfeld into third. That’s the first podium position for the Venturi driver.
Vergne was stripped of his fastest lap and that was awarded to Buemi.
The change around means that Buemi drops into third place in driver standings, behind di Grassi and Piquet; Piquet now enjoys a 17 point lead over his next challenger, di Grassi.
The decision has also closed the gap between Audi Sport ABT and e.dams-Renault to 44 points.
