Alex Lynn made an impressive start to life in Formula E by topping opening practice for the New York City ePrix on Saturday morning, heading up a one-two finish for DS Virgin Racing.
Making his Formula E debut this weekend in place of Jose Maria Lopez, Lynn was able to turn in a best lap of 1:05.977 around the street circuit in Red Hook, New York, finishing almost two-tenths of a second clear of the field.
Heavy rain throughout Friday left the circuit greasy for opening practice, but Lynn was able to keep cool and lead home DS Virgin Racing teammate Sam Bird.
Berlin race one winner Felix Rosenqvist finished third for Mahindra ahead of Renault e.dams’ Nicolas Prost, while Daniel Abt was fifth for ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport ahead of teammate Lucas di Grassi.
Jerome d’Ambrosio finished seventh for Dragon ahead of Jaguar’s Mitch Evans, while Robin Frijns and Adam Carroll rounded out the top 10.
FP1 saw Pierre Gasly make his first public Formula E appearance with Renault in place of Sebastien Buemi, having missed shakedown on Friday due to simulator commitments with Red Bull’s Formula 1 team. The Frenchman finished 17th overall.
