Mahindra Racing Formula E driver Felix Rosenqvist will make his Le Mans 24 Hours debut this year with LMP2 outfit DragonSpeed.
Rosenqvist, who claimed third place at the 2016 Marrakesh ePrix in his debut season, will compete in the world’s oldest sportscar endurance race alongside Ben Hanley and Henrik Hedman. He will share the cockpit of the DragonSpeed ORECA-Gibson 07.
The 85th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place on 17-18 June at the legendary Circuit de la Sarthe, exactly one week after Rosenqvist is due to contest Formula E’s Berlin ePrix double-header at the Templehof Airport Street Circuit with Mahindra. Adding to his growing 2017 racing schedule, the Swede will shortly begin his assault on this year’s Super Formula campaign, which starts next weekend on 23 April at Suzuka.
Rosenqvist, who has previously raced sportscars in IMSA’s Prototype Challenge class in the US and in the Blancpain GT Series, is joining DragonSpeed after a successful try-out in the ORECA at Silverstone earlier this week.
He takes the seat filled in DragonSpeed’s line-up for the European Le Mans Series by Nicolas Lapierre, who was scheduled to drive for the Signatech Alpine WEC squad before his recall to Toyota.
DragonSpeed team boss Elton Julian told Autosport: “Felix is clearly one of the best young drivers on the planet. We gave him a couple of runs at the test and he has already shown his class. Pairing him with Ben Hanley gives us one of the strongest line-ups to support Henrik’s first Le Mans.”
