Trulli GP Formula E driver Michela Cerruti will undergo back surgery following the return of a recurring injury. The issue has forced the Italian driver to miss the final weekend of the Auto GP series which will take place this weekend; Cerruti is currently ranked sixth in that championship, with Super Nova top of the team sheet.
Although the operation will put her out of action for a month, the team doesn’t expect the recuperation period to affect Cerruti’s participation in the Putrajaya round of Formula E.
“I’m deeply saddened for not being able to enter the Estoril race with Super Nova,” Cerruti said in a press release. “The 2014 Auto GP finale would have been a perfect closing step for this year’s learning experience. An experience that brought me three podium finishes and a win. Following a medical check, I was strongly advised not to race due to a recurring back injury. This is an issue I had been dealing with for a while. In order to solve the problem and be at my 100% for the next season, the doctors advised me to stop and undergo a surgery procedure that will keep me parked for the next month.”
