Long-term Current E photographer Dan Bathie has won the Guild of Motoring Writers’ 2016 Audi Motorsport Photography Award.
The news was revealed at an awards ceremony tonight, held at the Royal Automobile Club in London.
According to the GOMW entry page: “The judges are looking for an innovative or instinctive angle on photographing vehicles or motorsport action in all its diverse outlets. The winner will be selected for his or her range of photographic techniques across the full selection of their entered work.”
Dan has been a central part of the Current E photographic team since January 2015, when he covered the Buenos Aires round of the first Formula E season in place of Shiv Gohil. Dan then joined Shiv as part of a regular team from the European races onwards and has not looked back, attending all except one round in season two and, already in season three, both Donington Park tests, a couple of private preseason shoots, Hong Kong and Marrakesh.
When Spacesuit Media was founded in April 2016, Dan became a core part of that talented team, supplying Current E as well as many others inside and outside the Formula E paddock. He is attending every race on the 2016-17 Formula E calendar with Spacesuit Media, so you’ll see lots more of his work this season.
“Dan’s work speaks for itself,” says Ross Ringham, editor at Current E. “At Current E, we love his vibrant colours, emotion-filled portraiture, contextual and architectural shots and action-filled frames. We really do believe he is a special talent and we’re proud to feature his work across all of our channels, both digital and in print.”
