A reworked schools racing programme could feature at the European rounds of the 2015-16 Formula E season, we can reveal.
The revised concept is being considered internally at Formula E organising body, FEH. The initiative would be similar to that of the first season, where school children built single-seater electric cars and raced them on the Formula E tracks.
It’s not yet clear whether Greenpower, the organisation that managed the programme in the first series, would continue to play a part nor what the differences between the first and second season programmes would be exactly. Nor is it yet clear why the schools series in its current guise has been dropped.
However, given that FEH is based in the UK, it may be that running a schools programme solely in Europe is simply more manageable in the short-term and that bringing the schools outreach work in-house would make for a more joined-up approach to race weekend planning.
