Japanese racing driver Takuma Sato has joined the Formula E driver programme, reports motoring journal Autosport. Sato drove for six years in Formula 1 (including a stint with Super Aguri, which will field a Formula E racing team in 2014) before making a successful switch to IndyCar racing.
Takuma Sato is to join fellow ex-Formula 1 racer Lucas di Grassi as a development driver for the FIA’s new electric single-seater series Formula E. The announcement of Sato’s role was made as Formula E made its Asian debut in a launch event at the Tokyo Motor Show on Wednesday.
“I am very excited to be a part of the drivers programme for the development of the Formula E cars,” Sato said. “I am very much looking forward to driving the test car this coming winter.”
