Frankfurt first thoughts

Today’s launch event was as slick as we’re coming to expect from Formula E. Pounding music, flashing lights and a packed media scrum were all in evidence, the hallmarks of a successful motoring press event.

Several new tidbits emerged, including potential for tactics with faster and slower cars, road relevant tyres, augmented reality link-ups with baseball and sharing McLaren’s P1 electric powertrain.

In the coming days we’ll share the gossip, including comments from Lucas di Grassi on adapting to life at the wheel of an electric racer and the unique challenges drivers will face in Formula E. Plus we hear from Spark founder Frederic Vasseur, we ask how much DHL paid to sponsor the series and we get shouted at for getting too close to the car while taking photos. Twice.
